An Unfortunate Situation

We’d like to start this off by saying that writing this blog is not something we wanted to do, nor is it easy for us to finally come out and say all this. We did not want to have to put this whole thing out there publicly and have tried to avoid doing so for the past 6 years. Before any accusations are made against us, we want to note that if we were looking to cause drama and start trouble, we would have exposed this stuff years ago and not held onto it for this long in hopes a peaceful reconciliation could be reached behind closed doors. We know things like this are naturally divisive and that not everyone will believe what’s written here, but we’re tired of us and others being bullied and manipulated. As we always say, public posts like this should always be a last resort when it comes to resolving issues and only done when every other option has failed, and we think unfortunately after years of trying to resolve this situation every conceivable way and getting nowhere, this is the only option we have left after over a half decade of trying to be the bigger people and work things out the right way.

We know this is a long read but we please ask that everyone who plans to comment on the scenario publicly please take the time to read through the whole thing before they do.

We also want to state up front we in no way shape or form support any kind of acts against anyone we’re about to discuss here. We’re trying to put our experience into words here in the most civil way possible, the absolute last thing we want is any kind of threats delivered against anyone mentioned here or to be the cause of anyone getting unnecessarily bullied online or in real life. We DO NOT support anyone targeting the individuals spoken about here in any way and we would ask that anyone reading this would please refrain from doing so.

It’s scary for us to say this publicly and we know we’re taking a big risk, but it must come to an end. Sean O’Connor works closely with Sam and has been trying to bully, manipulate, put down and spread lies about us and others for the past 6 years simply because we own some Thomas the Tank Engine props which he and Sam believed they were entitled to for many reasons we’ll explain here.

To start, we must go back to the beginning which would be May of 2014 when we (Louis and Ricky) were offered a brass model of James the Red Engine from the Prop Store of London. The asking price was very high, and this occurred as we were in the middle of paying off the Pack scale Trevor which we were making monthly payments for. We were also in college working minimum wage jobs at the time and could barely afford the Trevor payments as it was. There was no way we could afford the another more expensive model ourselves, so we started looking around for people who might be interested in splitting it with us. Someone we suggested we contact Sean O’Connor and said he and Sam were interested in purchasing any Thomas related props they could get their hands on. We had never heard of Sean before and had no idea what we were getting into. He seemed very enthusiastic about the model and decided he was going to make a Kickstarter to raise the money. The model was purchased at the last minute by an unknown buyer unrelated to the campaign after the money was raised, and we can honestly say neither us nor Sean have any clue where it ended up. The important takeaway here though is that Sean organized a whole campaign to try and purchase a locomotive character prop from Thomas the Tank Engine, and Sam “anonymously” donated 3000 pounds to the campaign himself. This is itself not a malicious act, but in the context of what comes next, you’ll see why this is important to keep in mind.We'd also like to make it known that it took 2 years of constantly asking on a weekly basis to get the $50 I donated to the campaign back after everything fell through. 

The first true instance of bullying came when we revealed to Sean we had purchased Sir Handel. This was well before we revealed it on twitter, and we figured it would be a good idea to tell him and a select few others because of what had happened with the whole brass James ordeal. We did this in good faith because we trusted him and thought he'd be as happy as we were to see the Sir Handel prop, not to show off or upset him. As soon as we placed the first image of Sir Handel in the Skype chat, he immediate responded with “Where did you get that? It’s extremely illegal and underhanded to own something like that”. We were shocked and hurt. He immediately started ranting to us about how buying any sort of prop from Thomas was illegal and that it all counted as stolen property. He went on to further state that Mattel would eventually take this model away from us and advised us to “enjoy the model while we still could”. Sadly, we don’t have images of this particular conversation because our Skype chatlogs only go back to 2016, but we do luckily have many other images of similar things he’s said later on about our collection being illegal and Mattel taking our items away. We're sure Mattel would be very pleased to know he was making threats on their behalf. All of this seems rather ironic coming from someone who just set up a huge online campaign to purchase a James prop from the same place. It was okay for him to make a huge campaign to privately purchase a model, but when we purchased something, it was “extremely illegal and underhanded”? By his own false logic, the James he would have spent 10,000 pounds of donation money on would have been taken away by Mattel. It just didn’t make any sense.

Considering this, we didn’t believe what he was saying. There were just too many holes and hypocrisies, but it did make us nervous. What was Sean going to do? Sam works for the company; was he going to try and take action against us? These scare tactics are what kept us from revealing Sir Handel to the public for so long. He soon changed his game plan and started telling us it would be a good idea to cast everything we owned so that we can “keep copies when HiT comes to take everything back”. We luckily DO have proof of him saying all this to show here as evidence. He wanted us to send him all our screen used faces so he could cast them for the sake of “giving us something to keep” when the models were “taken away”. You can see where Niklas (Diesel10TV) got his ideas about Mattel busting down our doors with baseball bats demanding their props back. We obviously did not want to send our screen used faces to Sean for various reasons. First and foremost, sending props to someone who just told us that having anything from the show was illegal and that it all would be taken away seems like a ridiculous idea considering he’s very close to someone who actually works for Mattel. That would be like if someone who was good friends with a known credit card thief kept threatening that you’re credit card information would be stolen, and then asked you to send them your credit card so he could copy down the number and keep it safe for you. It just doesn’t seem like a good idea. Secondly, we were told by many professional prop makers that casting anything in a screen used paintjob is a bad idea. A lot can go wrong from original paint being peeled off by the silicon rubber, to mould release staining the original item. As people who try to keep everything in the best and most original condition possible, we were and still are completely against putting any kind of screen used item at risk like that.

We made the right choice as we would soon find out. Unfortunately, Owen, one the guys involved in “Top Props”, did let Sean cast some faces in their collection including unpainted casts of Salty and Alfie as well a screen used George face. He actually paid Sean to cast these faces for him (yes, you read that right). Sean evidently kept many extra copies for himself and Sam without telling Top Props. Sam then tried to sell these casts that Sean had made to other fans on Facebook under table, claiming that he had been offered them from the Prop Store of London and that the person he was trying to sell them too had a limited time to purchase the item before the Prop store would sell it to another buyer. He was foolish enough to try this trick on Tom Jedski (@tomsprops) and several other fans who were smart enough to know he was lying and saved the messages. What’s ironic is that while ranting to us on why we should send all our faces to him to cast, Sean reassured us by saying “If I sold copies of the stuff I cast for people, half of Owen’s gear would be in people’s living rooms!”. Owen’s stuff DID end up in peoples living rooms because Sam was selling it to people under the table! Not only was he lying about them coming from the prop store and only being available for a limited time, but he did it behind Top Props back, who PAID for Sean to cast the stuff in the first place! If we had fallen for Sean’s tricks and let him cast our stuff, not only would it end up with paint damage like the George face, but Sam would have been offering it to people on Facebook alongside Top Props stuff. It’s also ironic that Sean specifically told us that “casting your stuff is fine as long as you don’t sell on casts”. Not only did Sean cast the Top props stuff which Sam then sold on, he cast various Thomas and Diesel 10 faces which Sam then scammed tons of kids with by making them pay anywhere from 50 to 200 pounds apiece, and even went as far as to sell them on eBay for ridiculous prices. Seems like a case of do as I say not as I do!  We’ve given these same Thomas faces out to many people for free.

Another scare tactic both Sean and Sam tried to use on us was that “Hiding things will do you no good, HiT has a list of every item that’s ever sold”. Both Mattel and the vendors that sell the props have confirmed to us no such list exists, and Mattel frankly has no idea what props go up for sale unless they’re selling something from their own inventory. But then why would Sean say this? It was said in hopes we would blindly believe they were speaking the truth and tell them about every item we had and might possibly be purchasing so that they could get it themselves or be the first to find out what we had and prevent us from getting more. Sean openly said hiding things would do us no good; and we “might as well admit what we have so we look good in Mattel’s eyes” and we have the photos to prove this. This is flat out bullying and manipulation to try and get us to reveal everything we had, which is exactly what Sean trained us NOT to do when he tried to scare us by saying everything we had was illegal and would anger Mattel/HiT. Why would we show these people with direct connections to the company things that could according to them, get us in trouble? It really makes little sense and we're happy to say we never fell for it, which only angered Sean even more. He tried make us feel like we were the ones doing wrong by buying this stuff, and attempted to manipulate us into thinking that it was a bad thing that we have these things and that they belonged to HiT/Mattel, who would take them back so him and Sam would have access to them.

He also frequently used passive aggressive language towards us and would indirectly accuse us of doing things by stating them to us and then say “not that you guys do that”. He would then act like we were the bad guys for hiding stuff in the first place, when in reality we were only hiding them because he scared us into doing so. It was a ridiculous situation where he switched between trying to scare us and then getting mad we were hiding things out of fear. It’s like he was setting us up to look like we were doing wrong either way and there was no way to win. This shows the kind of passive aggressive stuff he would do when dealing with us. 

This aged very poorly considering Niklas (Diesel10TV) was exposed for having many secret agendas and sending people tons of blurred out pictures for the sake of teasing people. It's also a classic case of Sean being passive aggressive and obviously trying to say we hide things like "some prop collectors do". The last part is especially hilarious considering he's sitting on hundreds of face casts.

Another point of contention was the “Tenmille team” group chat Sean made. He had been badgering us about where we got the Tenmille kits we own for some time and would become obviously angry every time we would get a new one, asking where we got it. We got them all on eBay but he never seemed to believe us when we told him, despite providing screencaps of the auctions. He created a group chat on twitter with several other gauge 1 users including Diesel10TV which he claimed was made so people could “share any auctions they find of Tenmille stuff” so Sean could “cast them and distribute the parts to everyone while sending the original back to the buyer”. Sounds great in theory, except it never happened. In reality it was just a platform for Sean to get everyone else to post auctions to Tenmille stuff online so that he could buy it for himself and he never ended up casting a single thing for anyone in that chat. To our knowledge the only wagon Sean has ever cast was a freelance open wagon Tom Jedski (@tomsprops) loaned to him for that purpose. The wagon was eventually returned to Tom after 2 years and to our knowledge casts were never given out to anyone in the Tenmille group chat. Sean also tried very hard to convince us to send him our Tenmille stuff which had already been assembled, to him so he could disassemble it and cast it. We were hesitant because we didn’t want to ruin the models, which had already been glued together. Sean claimed that the disassembly would cause no damage to the wagons, yet had a much different stance on the matter when someone on Twitter asked him to cast some of his own, which we have pictured here. Just another case of Sean trying to manipulate people to getting what he wants. As of recently he’s been selling Tenmille kits from his collection to people under the table, which in itself isn’t necessarily a bad thing, there’s nothing wrong with selling kits, but it’s quite a change from when he claimed he would be making casts of everything to distribute and help people out. If anyone from that group actually received castings of anything, we would love to know about it.

Not only does this come off as passive aggressive, none of the stuff he talks about here actually happened in the group.

He used the same scare tactics on us in the Tenmille group to try and deter anyone in there from buying props. He's referring to HiT/Mattel taking the props back here. Also note he mentions them having a list again. 

Despite saying he wouldn’t care if everyone had castings of what he had, Sean also deliberately makes sure that his 3D models and faces, including the ones he puts on Shapeways, are not perfectly accurate. He seems to have some kind of bias against using the resources he has to make things that anyone can purchase, seemingly because he wants the best stuff for himself only. He openly admitted he does this so that people won’t ask him for casts of the stuff the 3D models are based on. What happened to not caring if everyone had a casts of what he had? He also openly stated that if he did actually use anything for reference he “wouldn’t tell anyone” We take great pride in giving people such as Tdoc and Tom Jedski measurements of our props to make CADs as close as possible to the original so that other fans can have something just like the real thing, and we make it known that these CADs are based off the actual props so that people know what they’re getting is accurate. When we get something, we want the whole fandom to benefit from it. Here, you can see Sean would rather purposely make things inaccurate and not admit to using the real thing so that the casual fan doesn’t get anything too close to perfect and nobody will ask him for anything.

He changed his stance immediately once he actually had a ton of stuff people would want casts of. It's interesting he says he says he wouldn't mind if he got a few casts in return because various people have tried to trade with him and he's claimed he isn't interested.

Another point on contention is the Thomas creator collective. Both Sean and Sam always hated the TCC because they were worried/jealous that other fans besides themselves would openly have a connection to and be working with Mattel. They felt it was stepping in on their territory. Sean stated “McCue always has always hated the TCC” which is obviously not true as anyone who worked for the TCC will tell you. He pitched some convoluted plan involving filming props spinning on a table that required everyone working on it to do it for free with no paycheck. Sounds rather ridiculous to us and was most likely a half-baked attempt for him and Sam to get their hands on the models while cutting off the fans who were working for the TCC at the time off from Mattel. They wanted to be the only ones with official connections. He wanted to put all the people working on it out of job for completely selfish reasons.

More recently however, he’s realized that direct bullying and scare tactics don’t work on us and we haven’t spoken to him in some time. We were fine with this and felt perhaps it would all work out if we just kept our distance. Unfortunately, this turned out to not be the case as several people informed us, he had been saying a lot of crazy stuff about us behind our backs. Stuff that seemed extremely petty and some of which was untrue. When we revealed James on Twitter he stated he was happy the prop was safe, but was “pissed the prop was in really bad peoples hands”. Really bad people? As far as we're aware this statement wasn’t elaborated on, but we can only assume he’s claiming to others we’re “really bad people” because he’s angry we have what we have and that we saw right through all his tricks and scare tactics. We're sure he’ll claim we “made fun of him” on select occasions, but in reality, what this entails is parroting things he’s said to us on twitter. If these statements are so crazy that they can be said online verbatim and seem ridiculous, we believe the problem would be with the person who originally spoke those words, not the people parroting them. Furthermore, if those words aren’t true, then why were they said to us in the first place?

He then goes onto state he would “definitely be going for” some of the season 4 engine faces “just to be petty” and would love to “make a huge deal out of revealing them”. We don’t even have to say much about this one, he flat out admits he wants to purposely get stuff we might potentially want to be petty and spite us just for having a few of the season 4 models. If him admitting he would do something like that to be petty isn’t a sign of what kind of person we’re dealing with here, then we don’t know what is.

The icing on the cake here is when he claims he would “go into debt” to purchase a season 4 engine just to “make sure there would never be a complete set”. We think this all speaks for itself. Imagine being so petty and so stricken with envy that you openly state you would go into financial debt to purchase something, simply so another person couldn’t complete a collection. That’s insanity and a true mark of character. It would be like if we said we would go in debt to make sure we get Tophat or Grampus simply so the Star Tugs trust could never have a complete set of models. We would never even consider such a thing, because it’d be extremely petty and the only real people that would lose out would be the fans that attend their events who would be missing out on seeing the whole set together. Is this the kind of person you want having influence over the Thomas the Tank Engine props? Someone who openly admits to being spiteful and trying to get things just so other people can’t have them?

It all comes down to the fact both Sean and Sam thought because of Sam’s position working at HiT, that they would have all the Thomas props to themselves and nobody else would have a shot. When we started acquiring stuff, they felt like we were stepping on their turf and took it as a personal attack against them when in reality, us purchasing these items had nothing to do with them. We purchased the models because we’re extremely passionate about this stuff, want to fix it up and display it for everyone to see, because that’s what we would want someone else to do if they were in our position. These guys took it as a personal offense and used it as a reason to be nasty to us from day one. They always had and will have a grudge against is because we bought some Thomas the Tank Engine props. They felt entitled to everything and got angry every time we would show something or put something new up because they felt like it should be rightfully theirs, and everything we got was something they wouldn’t be able to have. This is a huge reason we were hesitant to put up engine characters for so long and why we still are very careful about when we show and when we show it. This is a ludicrous way to think considering they have access to Mattel’s entire archive, and if that’s a false statement, you can refer to the image we have of Sean saying this himself. Mattel has shipping containers worth of props and many engines as the most recent Drayton Manor photos prove. Despite having all this at their disposal they choose to focus on the few characters we were able to obtain and have been bitter for over half a decade because of this. They tried to trick us, they tried to guilt trip us, they tried to scare, us, but none of it worked and they’re not happy about it. We’re not out here to get every prop and leave these guys dry, they have access to more items then we could ever dream of owning in our lifetime, yet they choose to be petty and focus on the few things they don’t have and take us owning them as a personal attack on them and their status when it’s not, we’re just passionate about the model era.

Not only does he admit he has access to Mattel's collection, he admits in his eyes it's "more interesting" then anything in private collections. With that being the case, why is he so mad over what we have?

He doesn't begrudge us? Is that why he spent years telling us what we have is illegal, trying to get us to send it to him, and claimed he'd buy certain things just to spite us?  Also how do we have the monopoly on it when he and Sam have access to "most props Mattel owns"?

Just kind of an odd thing to say to someone.

More recently, Sean has been much more conscious of his image on Twitter and publicly has been watching what he says. A quick look at some of his older tweets can show his true feelings. Several months ago he started putting up face reference sheets from 2002. He did this to gain good Twitter PR, and there’s nothing wrong with sharing cool stuff like that, we do it all the time. However, he received those face sheets years ago, and we ended up paying him $100 to see them on the grounds we were not allowed to share them with anyone. These were later put publicly online for free when Sean was trying to improve his public image. Sounds like we got scammed out of $100 to me.

On the subject of the face sheets, they can also be used to highlight the difference between his public and private personas. He would put up one a day, which is completely fine. There’s nothing wrong with stretching them out over time, it gives people something to look forward to for a while. However, he would become irate when anyone would ask him for specific ones. If you’re taking the responsibility of providing the fans with something spread out over a long time, then it’s obvious that requests and questions about what will be next are inevitable. It’s like holding a bag of treats in front of a dog and expecting them not to bark before you give them some. One twitter user who we’d like to point out was 16 at the time, made a post asking for Henry’s face sheet. Sean took great offense to this comparing it to war (???) and stating that although people asking questions was inevitable, he didn’t have to like it, which is true but when you put yourself in that situation you have to expect questions and requests. This is not the kind of reaction someone who wants to help the fans would have, but rather someone doing it for good publicity who sees the fans as a nuisance that must be dealt with. He then claims he doesn’t want to be “treated like a resource” which to us, is ridiculous. We pride ourselves on being a resource people can use whenever they want to know something about the models. We wish such a resource was around when we were younger and researching all this stuff ourselves and want to encourage as much interest in the model series as we possibly can. It would be a great honor to be considered a resource in that field.

Why even put these photos up if he didn't want to be a "resource"?

This is referring to his 3D models. The words of someone who's truly for the fans. 

As most of you know Sean and Sam hosted the “History of Thomas” event last May which showcased many original Thomas props which they had rented from HiT. We have no issues with this display, and we consider it to be much safer for the models then something like Drayton Manor. However, we have heard from several people that Sean has cast some of the screen used faces he rented from HiT for the display, most likely without gaining proper permission. In any regard, casting screen used faces can potentially damage them as explained earlier. He hinted to various people he cast several expressions including the sad Edward and the angry Henry faces. He also claimed to only have a cast of Edward’s smiling face, which is the only expression that was ever seen on his replica until after he and Sam did the History of Thomas display and he presumably got to cast the Edward prop faces. Likewise, for years he claimed to only have casts of Henry's happy, sneezing, and shocked faces until after the display when he somehow obtained an unpainted cast of his mad face, a face they rented from Mattel. We have photo evidence for these these claims, but we only able to share the photos of the sad Edward casting currently. It’s also worth noting that when photographing the Edward prop faces on his replica, he left the ones not in use outside on the concrete next to the track. This obviously wasn’t intended to be a malicious act, but it’s hard for us to look at considering those are the original faces just outside potentially scraping against pavement. It’s not something we would have done with screen used items. We're just looking out for the safety and preservation of the props here.

Here he claims he only has one Edward expression and that there's a "lack of anything Edward related anywhere" He somehow acquired more cast expressions after him and Sam rented the prop faces from HiT. 

As we mentioned earlier, it’s very scary for us to write something like this and put it out in the open. It’s a huge risk to us for many reasons. We’re putting our reputation on the line here and we do not take that lightly. We know not everyone is going to take the time to read this giant thing and will accuse us of making things up, but we’ve been on Twitter for 6 years now and our actions should speak for themselves. We try to not get involved in personal drama and have never had to write something like this before publicly. We wouldn’t have gone through the trouble to do all this if we were lying, this is something that’s been on our shoulders for a very long time. We know we’re putting our reputation on the line here but if simply putting the facts out there is going to damage our reputation, well that’s a risk we’re going to have to take.

We also want to address that we felt the need to use screencaps to prove our points here because without them, anything we say can be called out as a lie and not be taken seriously. We know some will complain about the use of screencaps and consider it in bad taste, but if we didn’t have the proof to back these claims up, there would be no point in putting them out there in the first place. We want people to understand we’re not making anything up here and saying things without proof just turns into a “your word against theirs” scenario, which is something we want to avoid considering we’re telling the truth. Focusing on the fact we used them only serves to distract from the actual problem we’re using them to showcase. These screenshots come from a variety of places.

It should also be made clear that we’re not trying to claim we’ve never done anything wrong. There have been times where we have done things that have contributed to the ongoing feud, but sometimes after being constantly pushed around you end up pushing back whether you like it or not. We can confidently say we’re not the instigators in this situation. That’s not to say we’ve done no wrong, but we would certainly never do anything to someone who had not severely wronged us first, and we think our track record proves this.

Another point we want to bring up which we touched on before is the fact we’ve tried many, many times to work things out privately without doing something like this. We know many people will look at this and go “this is wrong, you should have worked this out in private instead of making a big public deal out of it” And to that we say, we tried. We tried for over half a decade. We tried very recently to talk to Sean about these matters again. Instead of responding to our messages, he unfollowed us on Twitter and removed us both from Facebook without saying anything. If that doesn’t show someone who’s not willing to talk and work things out, we don’t know what does. At this point it feels like he knows he’s in the wrong and would rather block it all our then try to make things right.

We also want to bring up potential reactions he might have to this post going up. On one hand, we wouldn’t be surprised to see him giving things out left and right to overshadow the evidence of bad behavior shown here. However, he may also claim hurt feelings and threaten to not give anything out as a result, putting the blame on us. We're posting things that he really did and said, stuff he was entirely willing to say to our faces and in some cases even publicly. If he feels it’s hurtful or damaging, why did he say it in the first place? We also have no doubt he’ll show this to Sam and/or present this to those at Mattel to frame us as troublemakers looking to start a problem. They’ve done similar things in the past. We’re coming forward with all this stuff because we’ve been dealing with it a long time, we’re not the ones causing a problem as illustrated by all the evidence. We’re exposing a problem that’s been going on behind closed doors for years.

At the end of the day we want everyone to know we’re not doing this to be petty, or because we like to cause trouble. We’re doing this because we’ve tried since 2014 to resolve this the right way and after recent attempts to do so, the situation seems hopeless. If we thought there was a chance we could have gotten through to him and done this in private we would have, but over the years that goal seemed to get less realistic until now it may as well be impossible since he’s removed us on Facebook and unfollowed us on Twitter. Our only ways to contact him have been severed. We even tried to get other people to mediate a discussion between us including close friends of Sean because they wanted peace on these issues just as much as us. Despite this, it's clear he'd rather not deal with it. 

As mentioned previously, there are certain things we had to leave out of this explanation due to agreements that have been made. However, if certain things are mentioned or brought against us, we may have to provide context to them, thus potentially may have to go into detail on these events if provoked. 

We’d like to close this post by saying that if a genuine apology is made, we’d be happy to delete this and move on, in fact, that's mostly what we seek to gain here. We want it to be known we’re more than open reconciliation, but we also will not forget about the stuff that’s been said with no apology. If an one is made, we’d be more than happy to drop the whole thing and as we said before, we’re not completely innocent of any kind of wrongdoing, we’d be happy to apologize for anything we may have done as well, providing it’s factual. If anyone says “well if an apology was made it would make no difference anyway”  we’re stating here that it would in fact make a huge difference and using that as an excuse to not make one isn’t going to help the situation at all. We’ve taken a big risk by putting all this out in the open and hope that things can only get better from here, and at the very least, hope to stop this kind of behavior from continuing.
